Wrist Distaff – used to wrap roving on, so that the roving is kept out of the way when using a drop spindle. The leather strap and bead go on the wrist. A one inch measure at the top of the staff allows for wraps per inch to be calculated for yarn produced.
Staff made from Silver Beech. Bead made from Silkwood. Leather strap and stainless steel eye screw. Finished with Tung Oil, Shellac and Beeswax.

Beautifully figured small Turkish Drop Spindle.
Dimensions are: 140mm arms and 180mm shaft.
Made from Silkwood (arms) and Silver Beech (shaft) and finished with Tung Oil, Shellac and Beeswax.
Turkish spindles have the advantage of creating a turtle shaped ball that is simple to remove by sliding off the arms when finished.
Made on request from a selection of timber. Pictured spindle has Silver Beech arms and Red Beech shaft (turned on traditional pole lathe). Finished with Tung Oil and Beeswax.
My take on Blockheads. I typically have a few available for sale, but can make them out of specific wood that I have available and colours to suit, if I can source the thread. I’m happy to make suggested variations on request. Full, standing height to top of hair is approximately 120mm (4.7 Inches). Sizes may vary.
